Friendship Hires Amber Duncan as New Director of Dining Services at Friendship Health & Rehab Center
Friendship, a local leader in senior living and rehabilitation, has announced the appointment of Amber Duncan as director of dining services at Friendship Health and Rehab Center, located on Hershberger Road.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Amber join our team,” said Luke Campbell, Friendship’s executive director of dining services. “Her experience within the dining industry is remarkable and just what we need as we look to further enhance and expand our services.”
Since 2008, Duncan has served as the retail dining and nutrition director for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. There she oversaw nine different retail cafes, supervised, trained and developed a culinary, kitchen and dining leadership team. All the while, she planned and executed culinary events and successful entrees on four-week rotations every quarter in collaboration with the central kitchen, dieticians and preferred vendors.
Prior to working at Carilion, Duncan was owner and operator of Reds, Wines and Blues Restaurant and the Certified Executive Chef® at The Blackwater Café; both establishments are located in Moneta, Virginia. Her credentials include being a premier culinary creation top 10 winner in 2019, receiving the American Culinary Federation’s culinary competition silver award in 2017, and has had a recipe published in Foodservice Director Magazine. Duncan earned her bachelor’s degree in information technology in 2014, and is now in the process of obtaining a degree in integrative nutrition from the University of Phoenix.
“Joining the Friendship team has re-inspired me,” said Duncan. “Nutrition and dining play such a key role in one’s happiness and health, and it brings me great joy and satisfaction to be able to care for our seniors in this way.”
