Friendship Hosts 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer's Promise Garden Drive-Through Event
Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
Due to the Coronavirus, the local Walk to End Alzheimer’s Event went virtual, instead of hosting a group walk, as it has in years past. Instead, this year supporters and walkers watched the Opening and Promise Garden Ceremony online, then came to the Friendship North campus to walk and drive through the Promise Garden, which was set up from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Roanoke Walk to End Alzheimer’s Co-Chair and Activities Director of Friendship's Adult Day Care Center Casey Halstead, says, “This year, I actually lost my grandfather to dementia, so it’s a little more personal this year. With everything going on, even with Coronavirus, it stops a lot of things, but Alzheimer’s doesn’t care whether Coronavirus is going on, so we still have to fight to find a cure."
