National Prescription Take Back Day at Friendship North - Saturday, April 27th, 10am-2pm.
WHO: Friendship Retirement Community, located at 327 Hershberger Road, NW, in Roanoke
WHAT: In partnership with the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office and Roanoke Valley TRIAD, Friendship is participating in the 2019 National Prescription Take Back Day.
National Take Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. This event addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
This event provides an opportunity for everyone to play a part in preventing drug addiction and overdose deaths.
Visitors have the opportunity to dispose of expired, unused or unwanted medications in a safe and secure way — no questions asked.
Those who turn in prescriptions at the Friendship Health & Rehab Lobby will receive a favor bag from Friendship, and will also have the opportunity to enter to win a free $25 gift certificate to Club Friendship!
WHY: Opioid addiction can touch anyone.
Fatal overdoses from heroin and prescription pain medications are on the rise in Virginia. Accidental overdose is now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States — and Virginia is feeling the effects.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: Everyone! All are welcome.
WHEN: Saturday, April 27th, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
WHERE: Friendship Health & Rehab, 327 Hershberger Road, N.W., Roanoke, VA 24012
